Thirty-four years in the payroll and business space, including more than two decades as a business owner. That's the experience behind every ClearCurrent engagement, not a methodology borrowed from a textbook, but the hard-won perspective of someone who has been in the same room you're in right now.
Brian didn't start as a consultant. He started in operations, in the trenches, in the numbers, managing teams, and making decisions with real consequences. That foundation is what makes his perspective different.
Lafayette Venetian Blind · Subaru of Indiana Automotive
Brian began his career in payroll and customer operations, including leading a full SAP Payroll implementation at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, an experience that gave him deep exposure to enterprise systems, process discipline, and what it takes to get a large organization to change the way it works.
Chemtura, Global Specialty Chemicals
At Chemtura, a global specialty chemicals company, Brian led a team whose operational challenges ultimately became the proving ground for his next chapter. Chemtura became Brian's first closed deal at APS, a detail that says everything about how he builds trust.
APS, Payroll & HR Technology
Brian joined APS in 2001 as an employee, became an owner in 2003, and purchased the remainder of the company from the founder in 2010. He spent 23 years building the business, growing it approximately 6.5x before completing a successful exit in September 2024.
CEO & Owner, Automated Payroll Service
Brian bought out the founder, becoming CEO and owner. Over the course of his tenure, he grew APS approximately 6.5x, building the team, the systems, the culture, and the client base that made that growth sustainable rather than fragile.
Automated Payroll Service
After more than twenty years, Brian completed a successful sale of APS. The exit validated what he had built, and opened the next chapter: bringing that same operational experience to bear for other owners navigating the same challenges he had faced.
Southwest Florida
Founded in 2026, ClearCurrent didn't start with a business plan. It started with phone calls from colleagues, former clients, and vendors who had watched what APS built and wanted that same thinking applied to their businesses. Those conversations made the direction clear. ClearCurrent Consulting is the direct expression of everything Brian learned as an owner and operator, a practice that takes a limited number of engagements so the work gets the attention it deserves. Every engagement is led by a senior ClearCurrent principal, from the first conversation through final delivery.
Local Chamber of Commerce
Believing strongly that business owners grow faster when surrounded by peers who understand their challenges, Brian partnered with a local chamber of commerce to design and implement peer group tables for business owners, structured forums where owners could share challenges, build resources, and learn from each other's experience. The initiative reflects a core belief: when owners are better connected, everyone wins.
Every framework Brian uses has been tested in a real business, under real pressure, with real consequences. He doesn't consult from a distance, he works alongside you, in the details, because that's where the real problems live.
The goal of any leadership engagement is a team that doesn't need to be managed into doing the right thing. Brian builds toward leaders and cultures where accountability is intrinsic, not enforced from the top.
Most businesses don't have a strategy problem, they have a clarity problem. The path forward becomes obvious once you remove the noise and look honestly at how the business is actually running. That's always where the work starts.
Brian's guiding belief: a person should be better when they wrap up the day than when they started it. As stewards of people, it is our responsibility to invest in their interests and skills, both personally and professionally. Culture isn't a program. It's what happens when that commitment is kept, every day.
Brian has sat in your chair, owned the business, managed the team, faced the scale challenge, built the systems, navigated the exit. That's a different kind of credibility than a case study or a certification.
Not what you want to hear. Brian's value to clients is his willingness to name what he sees clearly, the findings that have been visible for years but nobody has said out loud. A good thought partner isn't a yes-man.
ClearCurrent focuses on owner-led businesses, not enterprises with entire departments dedicated to every function. Brian understands the constraints, the resource realities, and the weight of decisions that fall on one person.
Brian has been through the process. He knows what acquirers look for, where businesses fall short in diligence, and how to build the operational clarity and leadership depth that commands a better outcome.
While running APS, Brian separately acquired a commercial property, completed a full interior build-out and exterior overhaul, and brought in three professional tenants — managing the entire project remotely while APS kept operating without interruption. That is not a side story. It is proof that the systems-based, delegation-driven approach he brings to clients is the same one he has lived.
There are no handoffs to junior consultants. Senior leadership on every engagement, the interviews, the assessments, the coaching sessions, from the first conversation through final delivery. That's not a marketing line. It's how the work stays at the level it needs to be.
Brian believes the best outcomes happen when the right people know each other. He enjoys meeting new people and actively looks for opportunities to connect owners, leaders, and resources across his network, not because it's good for business, but because creating mutual wins is how he's always operated. A conversation with Brian often opens a door you didn't know was there.
Every engagement begins the same way, a straightforward conversation about where you are, where you want to go, and whether ClearCurrent is the right fit.
